Elizabeth Eldridge Obituary

Passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 92 at "The Villages of Wentworth Heights" on Monday, July 26, 2021. Predeceased by her husband Ron and her son Richard. Survived by her daughters, Diane (Harry) Mills and Kathy (Rick) Clark, brothers Bill and Keith Hoy and grandsons Tim, Christopher (Hali), Greg (Tracy) and great-grandsons Jacob and Bram. As a life-time educator, Bettie began her teaching career in Halifax, NS. The family later moved to Ontario where Bettie continued to be a teacher, special needs teacher, French Immersion Librarian and Media Consultant for "The Board of Education for The City of Hamilton." Bettie was President of the "Women Teachers' Federation" and worked on several negotiation teams. She was an active and vocal advocate for the rights of women educators and played a vital role in contract settlements. Bettie was very artistic and creative. She worked with her husband Ron building many wooden creations for their company "Wood 'N Stuff". Her hand painted Christmas ornaments, wooden stools, dollhouses, and plates were delightful gifts. The world is a lesser place without her beautiful smile and sense of humour. The family wishes to thank the staff at Williamsburg (with a special hug to Agatha) and "The Villages of Wentworth Heights" for all their support, kindness and care. In keeping with Bettie's wishes, a private funeral will be held with her family. Those wishing to honour her life can add personal stories and condolences at www.cresmountfennellchapel.com Donations can also be made to the "Leukemia and Lymphoma Society" or "Parkinson Canada".

Bettie was a long time member of the Retired Women Teachers of Ontario, Hamilton Wentworth Branch. She always had a ready smile and heart warming stories to share. She had recently been made a "life member".
Our condolences to her family and friends. RWTO Hamilton Wentworth will be making a donation to the McMaster GERAS Foundation in her honour.

My condolences to all of the Eldridge family at this time. I have many fond memories of your mother. She was always a delight to chat with while Rick and his father "discussed" whatever we were getting up to. She was a delight and I'm sure that you'll miss her very much.
