Cornelius van BROEKHOVEN Obituary

van BROEKHOVEN, Cornelius "Casey" Passed away peacefully at St. Peter's Residence at Chedoke (Hamilton), with his children by his side, on March 6, 2021 at the age of 91. Casey was predeceased by his beloved wife, Thea (2015). Cherished father of Maria (Marco) Greco and Peter (Catherine). Loving Opa of Mya, Justin, Emily, Claire and Olivia. Survived by siblings Annie and Peet; predeceased by siblings René, Willem, Pauline, Harry, and Dina. He will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, in-laws, relatives, and friends. As well as being a wonderful husband, dad and Opa, Casey was a gentle and approachable person who could talk to anyone. He had many interests: Scouting (81st Hamilton Scout Troop), astronomy, creating stained glass, camping, Ham radio, and singing (Hamilton's Canadian Male Orpheus Choir). He came to Canada in 1954, coming first to London, Ontario then moving to Montreal where he met Thea and started his family. He worked as a draftsman in London and an electrician for Air Canada in Montreal while studying to become a teacher. He started his teaching career in Montreal, then moved to Hamilton in the early 70's where he taught for the HWCDSB (Bishop Ryan, Cardinal Newman & St. Thomas More). The family wishes to thank the caring, dedicated staff at St. Peter's Residence, Drs. Shankardass and Ayeni, as well as the staff at St. Elizabeth Retirement Residence. Due to COVID-19 there will be no visitation. The funeral mass on Tuesday March 9th (10am) will be live-streamed from St. Patrick's Parish on their website: www.stpatrickshamilton.ca and on their Facebook page: fb.me/stpatrickshamilton. As an expression of sympathy, donations to St. Peter's Residence at Chedoke (Hamilton), or The DeMazenod Door Outreach would be appreciated by the family.
