Dawn Bryden Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dawn at St. Joseph's Villa, Dundas, on Tuesday, March 2, 2021, in her 87th year. Dawn was predeceased by her husband Gilbert McCulloch Bryden (1989), and her parents, Earlton (1983) and Audrey Campbell (1998); Survived by her siblings: E. Wayne Campbell (Tina), Nova G. Whiteman (Gordon), and Noel A. Campbell (Pamela); her nephews and nieces: Todd Whiteman, Cheryl Whiteman, Jon Campbell, Alison McLeod, Scott Campbell, and Darin Campbell. Dawn is also survived by her stepdaughter Leslie Bryden, and Leslie's daughter, Janine Curto, and their family here in Canada and Scotland. Dawn was born October 31, 1934, in St. Thomas, Ontario and grew up in Hamilton, Ontario. She attended McMaster University for her B.A. and McGill University for her library science degree. Dawn's career took her from Hamilton to Dundas (via Oakville) where she was Head Librarian until her retirement in November 1995. Dawn and Gilbert enjoyed many winter vacations in Florida, which Dawn continued to do after her retirement. We are very thankful for the care and attention Dawn received from the staff of Primrose Lane who treated her with so much compassion. In accordance with her wishes, Dawn has been cremated and due to Covid 19 restrictions, there will be a private family memorial at Bay Gardens Funeral Home followed by an interment of her ashes at Bayview.

I had the pleasure of knowing Dawn at Dundas Baptist, and I heard many stories about her wonderful musical talents. She even sang a couple of solos for me! She was so faithful, and I looked forward to seeing her every Sunday, sitting behind me as I played. I could hear her lovely voice singing along to the old hymn tunes, and I was interested to see music she loved and had labeled with her name in the old choir folders. I am so impressed reading about her talents before I knew her. My sincere condolences to the entire family.

"Grand"Dawn was a very kind, generous, stylish, witty and had an undeniable characterized twill-styled whistle that I will never forget. I am sure that when I hear other people “twill” in the future I will think of her. I remember her getting into some craft programs at her KOA campsite. As a craftsperson, I appreciated hearing the stories she shared about her basket-making made by twigs, and her box-making from paper. She sent me a couple little boxes that she made that I still keep close - they were too precious to give away! I know she loved butterflies and autumn colours as well. The stained glass butterflies at her home made me feel at peace watching the sun passing through them and hope she is feeling the same now, free and at peace, like a butterfly.
