Harry FERGUSON Obituary

September 2, 1933 - October 17, 2021
Peacefully, after a brief illness, at Sunrise of Oakville Retirement Village in his 88th year. Harry was born in Glasgow, Scotland on September 2, 1933. Loving husband to Kathleen Ruth Ferguson (nee Lowe) and father to Lee (Godfrey), Evelyn (Ferguson-Elliot) and Kirsten (McKnight). Father-in-law to Patrick Aubert, Paul Elliot and James McKnight. Grandfather to Samuel, Russell, Emily, Katie, Jack and Sophie. Businessman, restauranteur, sailor, storyteller. Lover of life, travel, British history, Sir Walter Scott, Robbie Burns, books, music, a well-told joke and a cold beer with friends. A fiercely proud Scot. Although small in stature, he always managed to fill whatever room he entered. He will be missed by his family, both here and abroad, and by the countless friends he made throughout his life journey.
The family wishes to thank all the staff at Sunrise of Oakville Retirement Village for their excellent care of Harry.
Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, October 22nd at Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Rd. West, Oakville ON L6K 1E1. All are welcome.
A funeral service will be held at St. Jude's Anglican Church at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 23, 2021. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, regrettably, the service at St. Jude's will be by invitation only.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Harry's name to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, or to The Argyll Regimental Foundation, 175 Longwood Road South, suite 400 Hamilton, Ontario L8P 0A1.
"When Death's dark stream I ferry o'er/A time that surely shall come/In Heaven itself I'll ask no more/Than just a Highland welcome." - Robert Burns

We will miss him. That twinkle in the eye and quick quip.

Good conversations. And Burns Suppers! Well read lessons at the 8 o’clock.

Ae fond kiss and then we sever
Ae fareweel, alas for ever

In times long ago, a Celtic bard would compose a coronach worthy of, and equal to, the life lived. The Highland heart and soul of Harry Stewart Ferguson would have liked that. Although that world is long departed, its memory lingers and gives one pause in the face of one’s own meagre capacity to provide such an ode. HSF often quoted Robert Burns or Sir Walter Scott. Harry had the knack to offer up in a quote, their illuminating insight to some aspect of the human condition. Harry was a force of nature brimming with energy and filling the landscape of his life with forms both wild and majestic. You will be missed by many HSF and not forgotten, least of all by your kinsmen of the heart in Clan Fraser and the Argylls. Soraidh slàn, old friend.
