It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Kelly Groenewegen at home on Tuesday, March 9, 2021. Kelly was surrounded by the love of her husband of 26 years, Neil Groenewegen, and their loving daughters Rachel, Emily and Anna. She is survived and deeply missed by her mother Coby Lammers; predeceased by her father John Algera. Also deeply missed by her siblings Nancy, Dayna, Jennifer (Brian), and Derek, and their families. She will be lovingly remembered by her extended Groenewegen, Lammers, and Algera families, along with many friends, colleagues, and neighbours whose love and support is deeply appreciated. Kelly worked as a registered nurse on 8 South at the Hamilton General Hospital for over 25 years. Throughout this time, she was proud to be able to touch the lives of many different people in her community. Her family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks for the compassionate care provided by the staff of the Juravinski Cancer Centre, the nurses of the VON, and the PSWs who visited Kelly at home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Terry Fox Foundation would be appreciated by her family. In accordance with the regulations of the Bereavement Authority of Ontario due to COVID-19, all events are restricted to a specified number of attendees. Please RSVP in advance by calling 905-547-1121. All visitors are asked to remain in their vehicles until their allotted time. I worked with Kelly on 8 South when I first started my nursing career. She was an incredible mentor and coworker. It has been quite a few years since I worked with Kelly, but I will always remember her kindness and her infectious laugh. My condolences to her family.
