Marian James Obituary

Marian Linda James, born April 18, 1939, in Toronto, died December 28, 2020, at Hamilton General Hospital. Marian, a resident of Shalom Village Apartments, died of COVID-19; it was a preventable, painful, and lonely death. Marian was predeceased by her parents, Sylvia (nee Yatkowsky/Lewis) and Oscar James, and her son, Jordan Jay Swartz. She is survived by her beloved family: daughter Lainie Tessier, grandsons Aaron Swartz and Alexander and Oliver Tessier; sister and brother-in-law Burt and Phyllis Klein, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A gifted early childhood educator, Marian was dedicated to nurturing and supporting the children in her charge, and later in life devoted herself in the same manner as Boubie to her beloved grandchildren. Her whole family will miss her positive disposition, her baking, artistic and crafting skills. Her family is grateful to the personal support workers at Shalom Village, especially Claudine, and to the nurses and support staff at Hamilton General's COVID-19 ward; they perform exhausting and dangerous work with skill, compassion, and devotion. Graveside service at Beth Jacob Cemetery, Hamilton, held Dec 30th. Donations in Marian's memory would be gratefully accepted to Womenatthecentre, Interval House Hamilton or Beth Jacob Synagogue, Hamilton.
