Lily PHILLIPS Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Lily (née Tickle) after a courageous battle with Covid-19 at the St. Catharines General Hospital at the age of 87 on Monday, September 6, 2021.
Beloved wife of George (predeceased) for 55 years and a proud and loving mother to Mark (Colleen), Elizabeth and Joan (Lance). Loving grandmother to Christina (Patrick), Jessica (Chris), Jacob (Thaina) and Lynden (Emma). Loving great-grandmother (GG) to Olivia and Jackson.
Predeceased by her sister Joan (Jim) and brothers Peter (Joyce) and John, her parents Edward and Elizabeth Tickle and great-granddaughter Keira Marie. Survived by sister-in-law Beryl Tickle, nephews Jim, Paul (Sue), Martyn (Julie), nieces Debra and Alicia (Joe) and a great-niece Lauryn and two great-nephews, Joey and Jordan. Lily will be fondly remembered by close friends from her past and present.
Mom immigrated to Canada in 1955 to join our father and start a new life. From that, other family and friends joined us to start their life also in Canada. After staying home to help look after her family, Mom returned to the workforce and enjoyed working for Dr. Douglas Fernick for ten years.
Lily's love for her family was first and foremost, her other loves were her beautiful gardens, of which she was truly proud, sewing, knitting, smocking and baking her delicious. Belgium and shortbread cookies. These made the celebration of holidays and events all the more memorable.
A great debt is owed to Major Renee and the caring staff of Eventide Home where she befriended every person who crossed her path. She did call this her last home. A special thanks to the staff of the St. Catharines General Hospital, Covid unit. Their efforts to help Mom battle Covid and be with her in her final moments are nothing less than heroic. (Thank you, Susan and Wendy). We are forever grateful. They are to be admired for their selfless compassion and caring for others. Please thank these amazing people for what they deal with and do everyday.

As per our mothers' request cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services (905) 354 2133. There is to be no service at this time.
A Celebration of Life is to be held at St. Andrews Church, Grimsby at a later date.
If desired, all donations may go to St. Andrews church in memory of past members George and Lily Phillips. Online condolences can be shared on Lily's tribute page found at EssentialsNiagara.com
