Susan Stuart Obituary

We are heartbroken to announce the sudden passing of our loving sister, cherished aunt and dear friend at the young age of 74. Soosie passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, September 19, 2021, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Hamilton and will be sadly missed by all her family, friends and many grand nieces and nephews. She was a great sister to her brother Keith and his wife Valerie, a treasured Aunt to Paul (Amanda) and Courtney (Stefan) and a devoted friend to Lorraine, Larry, Andrea (Chris) and Anthony (Amanda). After graduating from McMaster University and the University of Toronto, Susan loved working as a Secondary School English Teacher starting her career in 1970 at Glendale Secondary School then onto Barton where she retired in 2001. Soosie considered volunteer work as her second family. She was a volunteer and fund raiser for Ronald McDonald House, the Lung Association, a member of the Lady Hamilton Club, and currently a dedicated member and fundraiser for the past 27 years for the Hamilton Mountain Cancer Assistance Program (CAP). She received many awards and recognitions over the years, but she was very proud to be named Citizen of the Year receiving the Paul Harris Award presented to her by the Mountain Rotary Club for her dedication to helping others. The family will receive friends at the Bay Gardens Funeral Home, 1010 Botanical Drive, Burlington, Ontario, on Monday, September 27, 2021 from 1 - 4 p.m. A private family service will be held on Tuesday. Due to COVID, the family is requesting proof of double vaccination to attend the visitation. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Cancer Assistance Program (CAP) Hamilton Mountain, www.cancerassist.ca

My sincere condolences to the Stuart family. A kind, gracious, full-loving soul...Sue will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Sue was a dear friend of my grandmother Irene and my family shared many wonderful times with both her and her mother Laura over the years. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time.

The photograph above perfectly captures the essence of my dear Cousin Susan. Her ready smile and bright eyes - with a hint of mischief behind them! - offer a warm welcome and invite us to come in. She was ever cheerful, most generous, and genuinely interested in those around her.
I shall miss her.

My sincere condolences to the family in the death of Sue. I remember her very well from high school at Glendale in the years 1961 to 1966 when we graduated from grade 13. She was known for her humour and energy as well in those days.
Although we had no contact over the many decades I do remember talking to her at the Glendale reunion and she was the same bouncy, friendly and caring person. What a loss for all of you!

Miss Stuart changed my life, she gave me a place to belong, instilled values and showed me how to be a good citizen. Her dedication to her students and community truly was inspirational. I am the person I am today because of her leadership and belief in me. Class of 1994 Barton
