Valery Schikolenko Obituary

Peacefully, surrounded by his family, Valery (Larry) Schikolenko, in his 81st year, took his last breath and passed away on Sunday September 12, 2021. After a valiant year long fight with cancer and a battle with Parkinson's, Val quietly slipped away. With his loving wife Lilli (nee Zimmer) by his side nursing him through his health struggle, he remained a strong-willed champion for his family. Val is survived by his son Lonnie, daughter Liane (Geoffery) Carruthers, his cherished grandchildren Quinlan, Keely, Fischer and Maya, and nephew Andre. Val is predeceased by his mother Helena and brother Tony. Val was a proud lifelong member of UA Local 67 having mentored many apprentices in his long time career as a Master plumber. Val loved to ski, having taught not only his children, but his grandchildren as well. His "happy place" was sitting on the dock at the family cottage on the Gull River in Minden. Friends and family are welcome to join in a celebration of Val's life at St Joseph's Church, 260 Herkimer Street, Hamilton on Wednesday September 29 at 11 am. In accordance with Val's wishes, cremation has taken place. The family wishes to extend their utmost thanks and heartfelt appreciation to our local LHIN co-ordinator Marta, dad's PCOT especially Bob, nurse Deirdre and team, the many PSW's and doctors involved in his care.

Mr. S, you were one in a million. The Spirit behind those sparkling eyes was one of kindness, humour, and integrity -beyond many other favourable characteristics. Amazing Husband, Father, Friend, Community member—alongside Lill, you created a loving family, and a home where people could come and go-without judgement. You will be sorely missed by family and friends. Thank you for your kindness —may you Rest In Peace now-
Until we meet again

Lilli and family,
Thank you for inviting me in to your home to be a part of Larry’s care team. I feel fortunate and blessed to have had the chance to get to know Larry.
Larry always made me laugh and he also made it very evident by his words and his actions just how much he loved his family. He loved you all with his whole heart.
My thoughts and prayers are with you Lilli, and your family in this very difficult time.
