Dick Barlow Obituary
Dick served in North Africa, France and Germany as a motorcycle dispatch rider for the RAF during WWII. Upon his return to Canada at age 26, he worked for Stelco as a machinist/tool & die maker/millwright for 34 years. Dick was a volunteer for 28 years at McMaster University Hospital, then St. Joseph's hospital, and an avid volunteer for the Canadian Legion, Stoney Creek branch, where his service was honoured with the Legionnaire of the Year Award, and Life Membership.
He loved music, and loved to dance. English round dancing, Scottish country dancing, ballroom dancing, line dancing, etc. Up to the age of 88, he was D.J.-ing the seniors dances on a Saturday night at the Stoney Creek Legion, having mixed his own playlist.
Passing at 96, he had a very long, productive, well traveled and active life.
Predeceased by his wife of 72 years, Vera (they'll be dancing again now, by golly); his brother, Bob Barlow and sisters, Emma Thomson and Lily Davidson.
Forever missed by his daughter, Ann (Dave) Setchell; grandson, Brynn Setchell and granddaughter, Rebecca (Dale) McFayden; great-grandchildren Amelia McFayden (8); Gwyddion Setchell (6), Nate McFayden (6), Tanwen Setchell (5) and nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, friends and neighbours.
Cremation has taken place. If you wish to make a donation in lieu of flowers, please consider the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Alzheimer's Research, or your local food bank.
A private evergreen tree planting memorial will be held next June, to celebrate his 97th birthday.

My sincere condolences to your family on the loss of a wonderful man.
I was your parent's realtor from Dundas to the condo and remained in contact seeing your Mom and Dad at McMaster where they were so friendly and loved by all. Your Dad always had a good story to tell that brought joy and laughter to everyone within earshot. Now they are together again. Bless him.

I remember Dick and Vera as volunteers when I worked at McMaster. They were such a happy adorable couple.... full of fun and wonderful stories. I tried never to miss the opportunity to chat with them when they popped into the lab or when we ran into eachother in the hallway. I will always remember them so fondly.

I liked Mr. and Mrs. Barlow very much. They were close to our family and I have so many great memories of our gettogethers throughout my life. I have missed you both. Mrs. Barlow has her dancing partner back. Show everyone in heaven how it's done.
