Irma Isabel Haycock

She was the daughter of Maria and Jose Motz born September 5, 1923 in Choluteca, Honduras. She was the only daughter with three brothers: Gunther, Roberto, and Werner. Roberto is the only surviving member and presently resides in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
After her education in Honduras, she received a teaching certificate in 1941. She came to the United States in 1943 to continue her studies at UCLA and two years later married Cecil H. Mortensen and created a family with four sons who survive her: John 68, Joe 66 Chris 63, and Brad 60. Chris is an ESPN Senior NFL Reporter/Analyst. Irma is survived by four daughters-in law: Irma, Kathy, Micki, and Peggy. Her descendants include 14 grandchildren and over 20 great-grandchildren.
She became a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1959 and was an active and respected member from then until her passing. In 1968, five years after her divorce, she married Hillman D. Haycock also an active member.
She lived three decades in Southern California before retiring to Cedar City, Utah in 1976. Her years in Cedar City were filled with many hours of service to people in her church and community including several years as a hospital volunteer. She resided in Utah until 2001 when she moved to Albuquerque, NM. In 2006 she moved again to Meridian, Idaho.
She was a devoted mother always setting a fine example for her sons with her rectitude, firmness of purpose, work ethic, and principles. She had a wonderful sense of humor that brightened those around her even in her final days.

Our childhood would not have been the same without the Haycocks next door. Where Hillman would yell for us to keep off the lawn and to not touch his fence, Irma would tell us it was just fine if we would just take off our shoes and to do it as long as he wasn't looking. She never once knocked on our door, but burst in unannounced full of chatter and love. Though none of her children lived nearby, she seemed to take us in as if we were hers. We always chose our country reports to be about Honduras because we knew Irma would share all she could from Honduras. I even remember being invited over to string popcorn for her Christmas Trees. The Millett family loved Irma, and Apple Blossom Lane has never been the same since the Haycocks left. Thoughts and prayers go out to all of you-the boys and their families that she was so proud of!
