Obituary Condolences

Richard A. Olson

Ivans - Richard A. Olson, age 88, passed on November 24, 2018 at the VA nursing home. He is survived by his wife, Barbara daughters Deb Skupien, Jennifer Kersch [Bill] stepsons Barry and Wayne Geck and numerous grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Janette Olson and his younger sister Diane.

Dick joined the Marines in July 1948, served in the Korean War was wounded twice, received the Purple Heart for his service. After his discharge he became a firefighter and soon became a Fire Chief, he served in fire departments in Japan and in several States. He retired after he had served 30 years.

He moved to St. George, Utah after looking for a place to retire because he wanted to play golf for the rest of his life. He met Barbara on the golf course and they married in 1996. They moved to Green Valley, AZ and played golf with all their friends. Together they bought a motorhome and travelled all over US & Canada. Dick had 2 serious strokes on Jan 9th, 2009. After he was well enough to travel we moved back to Ivins, Ut. So we could be near family.

When Barb was unable to care for him, Dick decided to go to the VA nursing home.

I want to thank all the employees at the VA especially those in the 800 unit, they went above and beyond in their care for Dick.

McMillan Mortuary handled the cremation and burial.

There will be a service at the VA nursing home on Jan. 2 at 2 pm, and a celebration of life after. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to .
