Val Bettridge Obituary
Val Eugene Bettridge

Cancer took the mortal life of our husband, father, grandfather and brother, Val Eugene Bettridge, age 80, who passed away April 29, 2014, at a Provo hospital.

Val was born February 14, 1934 in Parowan, Utah, a son of Alma and Roma Whitney Bettridge. He married Norma Griffiths on October 16, 1952 in the St. George LDS Temple.

Val attended schools in Cedar City before his family moved to St. George in about 1951, where he attended Dixie High School. Following his marriage to Norma, he served in the U.S. Army, serving in Germany for 17 months. He and Norma have lived in Boulder City, Nv.,Hunter, Ut., Hurricane (they lived at the Sunset Canyon Ranch from about 1963 to 1966) and in Spring City, Ut for the past three years. He worked in construction for all of his life, including as a carpenter and cabinet finisher. He was an active man all of his life- always giving quiet service to others with no recognition. Val loved the out-of-doors: hunting, fishing, hiking and camping- anything outside. A member of the LDS church, he served as Ward Clerk, and as Secretary in Elder's quorums and High Priest groups. He, and his wife, Norma, served as Ordinance Workers at the Manti LDS Temple.

His surviving family include his wife, Norma, of LaVerkin; two daughters: Jinyce (Michael) Smith of Beaver, Ut. and Jilene (Blair) Gubler of LaVerkin; 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters and 2 brothers, RaNae (Bevan) Ott of Highland, Ut., June Anne (Randy) Adams of Las Vegas, Nv., Keith (Dani) Bettridge of Wasila, Alaska, and Craig (Susan) Bettridge of Hurricane; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hurricane City Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the Metcalf Hurricane Valley Mortuary, 140 North Main St. on Saturday, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions, in Val's name, be made to the Utah Valley Healthcare Foundation, 1034 North 500 West, Provo, Utah 84604. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221. Please visit our website at for condolences, complete obituary and funeral listings.
