Burdell Ruesch Obituary
Burdell Ruesch

Glendale, Utah

Andrew Burdell Ruesch, 85, passed away at his home in Glendale, UT on Friday evening, June 27, 2014 surrounded by family. Burdell was born in LaVerkin, UT on September 18, 1928. He was the seventh of eight sons born to Oren and Alberta Flanigan Ruesch. Burdell graduated from Hurricane High School in 1946 where he played all sports and was elected Senior Class President.

Burdell and Verla LeBaron were married in the St. George Temple on June 4, 1948. Burdell was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions including the Young Men's Organization, quorum leadership, sports, and the stake high council. They sent six of their children on missions and then they served a full-time Family History Mission in Salt Lake City in 1996-1998.

When he was fourteen years old Burdell drove a wagon team through Zion National Park while working for a sawmill. He began his career in food service as a cook at Zion National Park and worked his way up to head chef at the lodge and traveling chef for the National Park system. He continued his career as a food service director at different universities in Arizona, Oregon and Utah. He moved to Salt Lake City, UT in 1964 where he served as food service director at Westminster College until his retirement in 1986. In 1987, Burdell and Verla moved to Glendale, UT.

Burdell was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His friend, Paul Piper, once said he had never heard Burdell say an unkind thing about his wife or children. Burdell had a great sense of humor and was a wonderful, kind, generous and faithful man. He loved to tell stories of his childhood to his posterity. He blessed the lives of all who knew him and he will be greatly missed.

Burdell is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-six years, Verla LeBaron Ruesch; children Craig Burdell (Marie) Ruesch, Pamela Stucki, Helen (Gary) Bowden, Shelly (Carl) Brown, Marne' Cazier Ruesch, Gary Dean (Lisa) Ruesch, Tracey Scott (Shelly) Ruesch and Connie (Christopher) Cosman; thirty-two grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; and one brother, Clair Ruesch. Burdell was preceded in death by two sons, Douglas Oren Ruesch and James Jerold Ruesch, son-in-law Richard Evans Stucki, granddaughter Carrie Melinda Ruesch, his parents and six brothers.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 5, 2014 at 2:00 PM in the Glendale Utah LDS Church, with a viewing from 11:30-1:30 PM. Burial will be in the Glendale Cemetery. Arrangements were made with Mosdell Mortuary.
