So sorry to read this. I was a foundation student of his at Lincoln College of Art. I also later attended some of his life drawing classes in the art shop in Lincoln. I learnt so much about drawing from him and his honest, constructive, emphatic and challenging approach with wit and warmth. I continue to keep in mind the lessons passed on whenever I draw and paint. I can only imagine his legacy continues in many. Thank you.

So sad to read this, he taught me in Lincoln, confused and puzzled me and thanks to him I went on to achieve my Degree in Fine Art. He was a very likable man with a wonderful sense of humour.

So sorry to hear of Roy´s passing. I was thankful to find a tutor that "got me" on my foundation course at Lincoln and that was Roy. I think I would´ve been adrift without his support, interest, and the example he set. His drawings anchored in rigorous observation made a lasting impression on me. I remember him having the unerring ability to cut through any nonsense in drawing (and in conversation) and get to what was significant, what was exciting! I´m sorry I´m posting this rather belatedly, but wanted to mark his positive impact on my art and life. Sending my love and best wishes to Jacky and family.

Remember meeting Roy at the Broomhall life drawing years ago as well as attending a couple of sessions that he ran himself ... remember a warm, witty and kind man ready to offer advice when I asked to improve my drawing, very sad to hear he's gone. RIP.

I am another former student of Roy's from the Lincoln College (2003)and I'm so sorry to hear that he has passed away. You have my sincere condolences. It feels implausible for such a strong presence...I will never forget his mischievous humour, frank feedback and thought provoking challenge. His words have helped me to ask the best of my work ever since. His recent drawings at SIMT & the Harley collection are a fitting tribute to his standards. I hope he found fulfilment through his art till the end & that his work will ultimately be a source of comfort and pride to you all.

My heartfelt condolences. Roy taught me at Lincoln college years ago, with deeply entertained kindness and limitless humor. And, on reflection afforded by my own experiences of teaching, an incredible amount of patience. The artists and practices he influenced carry his memory forward.

Only just heard news. What a loss. Fabulous artist and someone who I connected with the moment I met him. We shared stories and had much in common. I'll miss you Roy

I played in Roy's band Big Sun. He was tremendous fun, a good organiser, good singer and harmonica player. He kept together a band of shall we say disparate prsonalities and brought out the best in them. I'll miss him.

Just heard the news about Roy's passing. Roy was such a colourful and memorable character! As a former Foundation Studies student at Chad Varah House I used to dread life drawing and one lesson we had to draw a buffer machine and he remarked that me and my friend both needed to go to doctors and that was it,no guidance but we were just like huh, it was funny but yeah that was his way, his humour! Always sticks in my mind. My last ever life drawing he actually said I did well and complimented on my efforts, hooray! It has been many years since I saw him but the funny thing is that I oversee life drawing at the Usher gallery (but I don't teach or draw, just organise!) anyway I wish his family deep condolences. He is a well remembered chap who made an impact with his sense of humour, honesty and demeanour. R.I.P
