I was just thinking about Eric because he ran the creative electronics course at Fanshawe college in ‘73 or ‘74 and I goggled him to see if he was on there
He took all that class and a couple of us from the photography class on a blindfold experience for the weekend at some monastery near London Ontario
It was an amazing time being blindfolded all weekend and all the experiences he put us through to use our other senses
I’ve never forgotten it
Sorry to hear he passed

I have only known Eric through the MEA, but when I was working on my doctorate in the mid nineties he generously sent me chapters from his then yet to be published THE MEDIUM AND THE LIGHT. It was enormously helpful. We then occasionally corresponded. He once sent me a Christmas card. I am grateful for his gracious and well lived life. I shall miss his presence in the MEA community. Over the years that I knew him, Eric was always a most gracious, gentle man. He impressed everyone with his generosity, witiness, impeccable scholarship and far-ranging intellect. His contributions to the study of media are significant and will provide guidelines for future generations of scholars. He also ensured the integrity of his father's legacy. For that, we are all grateful. I am honoured to have known him. My most sincere condolences to his family.

Thanks Eric for your wonderful contributions to humanity. Not only were you the best possible person to help us understand the amazingly insightful things you father was saying all those years, but your own research on the subject of the brain and how thoughts are formed, was very enlightening. I enjoyed each encounter with you at the McLuhan Centre and elsewhere. You were always generous with your time, your ideas, and your best wishes. Thanks for all of that. -Sal Greco

Eric and I were good friends who liked to go for a burger once a week at a different place. He was a funny and loved words and their double meaning. Eric loved writing books and talking about new ideas and what was next. He had several books on the go at his passing. Lovely, gentle man. I will mss him as will his family.

Eric was one of the first people I met in 1997, when I landed in Toronto for the first time. He is the one who gave me a copy of his father PhD dissertation on English Renaissance; he is the one who invited me to speak in public about 'McLuhan, The Man of Letters' for the first time. He supported me, was generous with his time and his ideas. I've re-discovered Joyce and much more thanks to Eric, his jokes, his questions and his speculations. I hug here all the members of his family, I share their pain. I hug here all my literary and media ecology colleagues because I know they are feeling the same way. I mourn the loss of a friend, of a scholar, of a gentleman. Grazie Eric. RIP

Parting is hardly expressed in the binary form 1|0. The memory of Eric's personality essence and the awareness he provided will help transition and welcome a new cycle. RIP
