JOHN DUKELOW Obituary

DUKELOW, JOHN STAFFORD BARTON John Dukelow, affectionately known to friends, family and co-workers as "The Duke" passed away on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at his residence just days before his 76th birthday; after a long battle with cancer. John's career in broadcasting spanned over several decades. After spending a number of years in the finance business, John joined Johnny Lombardi's CHIN Ethnic Radio as a sales representative in the early 70's and within a couple of years was appointed Sales Manager. In 1980 John, along with Evanov Communications President Bill Evanov, became Sales Manager and General Manager respectively of CING FM 107.9, later known as Energy 108. John and Bill were also shareholders of CING-FM. On that station they initially launched a format featuring 50's and 60's known as the Golden Great Revival. In 1990 on Labour Day Weekend, they launched the groundbreaking, Canada's First Dance Music Station which became known as Energy 108 that became a sensational success. In 1995 when Evanov purchased CIDC-FM (Z103.5) John joined the Sales and Marketing Department. He remained active with the company until his passing. Spending most of his career in the radio broadcast industry, John was the ultimate relationship sales professional. Inevitably, all his clients became his friends as he looked after their sales and marketing needs. Best known for his joie de vivre and sense of levity, John will be dearly missed by all his family, friends and colleagues. John is survived by and will be deeply missed by his loving wife, best friend and life partner Catherine Matheson; his son Jeff and daughter-in-law Sabine, and two grandchildren Tylee and Max; daughter Tracey Millar and son-in-law Wayne Millar, and two grandchildren Brody and Cole; brother Bill and sister-in-law Belle and his two nephews Mackenzie and Bennett; father and mother-in-law Bill and Eileen Matheson; sisters-in-law Elizabeth and Alana; brother in-law Billy; his closest nephew John Sedlacek, and his niece Samantha. John was predeceased by his parents Eileen and Charles. A Celebration of John's life will be held in August with a date and location to be announced. Sincere condolences to Catherine and family...
Many shared experiences with John since High School (West Hill, ON), including a fun trip to Daytona, Florida with John's mom and dad and bro Bill...John's "egg route", we worked together part time at Cdn Tire and at the time John drove a 2 passenger Isseta which he hand spray-painted on a regular basis. John leaves behind many indelible memories.
