I had no idea he had passed away.I remember him from numerous commercials in the early 60's. Especially GM and the duMaurier ads. A great Canadian personality,he will be missed. My condolences and heartfelt sympathies to the family.

I met Joel Sldred a few years ago at the CJRT radio station in Toronto and he invited a few of us out to lunch at the Albany Club. As a broadcast rep I liked Joel and imagine my surprise to learn from Joel that he had some interesting and fun dealings with a relative of mine namely Percy Gardiner .As a grandfather now in 2016 and a bit of a family historian , I intend as my own 2017 project I named " GARDINER family bridges " to honour and build bridges between " the greatest generation" represented by Joel. Aldred and so many other WW Two veterans and our grandchildren " the NEXT generation" ! Thank you Joel Aldred for your leadership by example throughout your career and thank you for a very entertaining lunch at the Albany Club !

Uncle Joel I will miss the twinkle in your eyes and the roar of your laughter.....your advise was given with the wisdom of a man who lived life seriously but well balanced with humour. I will never forget the "Teri what are you going to do when you grow up chat over my very first Manhatten(and last) at the Scougog Farm" You are a shining star that shines down on us all now....be at peace. Your niece, Teri Aldred (Norman P. Aldred's first born)

I didn't know Joel Aldred personally. I remember him mostly for his deep resonant voice, and his self-identification, "This is Jo-o-o-o-el Aldred speaking"!

My Dad was Les Wainwright who worked for Ogilvie Advertising, Molson and Canadian Breweries-Rothmans. He would often tell me how Joel Aldred was a one take wonder and was a very popular talent for his voice and because he saved the client so much money in studio time. He also told me how smart Joel was, by accepting Rothman's stock instead of normal payment. These stories inspired me to become a brodcaster.

My heartfelt sympathy and condolenses go out to each member of his extended family. I had the pleasure of getting to know Joel and Anne well during his years of friendship with John Diefenbaker when we discovered he had served under my own father in World War II. Your tribute in the Star today spoke so well of his contribution to us all, and has given him his rightful place in our country's history. Your personal loss is monumental, and may the thoughts and prayers of many help you adjust to your own loss in the days ahead. Thank you Joel for your friendship and all you did to make our world a better place. May you now rest in peace and in God's care.
