first interviewed Joyce in 1972 for The Hamilton Spectator. The city always counted her as one of its most famous exports. Her TV hour with Truman Capote remains one of the best ever interviews. Capote told me it was the most comprehensive he'd ever done.

I fully agree with my friend Isobel above. While I never met Joyce in person, I spoke with her on the phone and wrote to her during my high school years, 1978-79. She graciously bought $50 of our school's raffle tickets even though I called her at home at 10PM(!), and she wrote a very kind, gentle letter that served me well as guidance and inspiration during the difficult teen years and high school. To this day, that kindness to a stranger, an unknown viewer, has guided my own interactions with my audience members. She was one of a kind, and will always be remembered, especially by this member of the alumni of Presentation High School in Montebello,QC (where she won our school raffle!)

was honoured to interview her several times, once for there globe and mail and later for the Hamilton spectator. some of her interviews at cfto were among the best ever on tv. Truman Capote thanked her on air at the end of her hour long interview with him and said it was the best he'd ever seen. off camera she remained a great beauty and a sincere advocate of Canadian tv. I wanted her to tell her life story but she shrugged and said ''no, I'd have to tell the truth.'' she'll be missed.

We (my mother and I,) lived next door for a year at #5 Nesbitt Dr.(1958 / 59) . The Davidsons @ #3. We rented space from a Mrs. Armstrong who was closer. I was in grade 4 class @ Bennington Hghts. with her daughter Connie I knew Shelley a little. Just to offer my condolences to all the extended Davidson family. I think they were close to Joan Armstrong as we were the same age. I watched Joyce' s CBC show which I think was named: "7:01"
for a short while because that is the time it aired!

Thank you for your work that I enjoyed and admired you. You once said to never give up a dream and with that thought [as I had to work] I kept on studying and became a reg nurse, got a BA then a Masters and at age 52 a PhD. You meant a lot to me.

She was a warm empathetic person, and a luminous presence on air or off.
