GRACE OSBORNE Obituary

OSBORNE, GRACE Grace Osborne (née Snead) passed away peacefully at home, with family, on August 22, 2021, from complications following a two-year fight against cancer. She was 80 years old. Born on January 16, 1941, Grace grew up in her hometown of Birmingham, Alabama. Grace met her beloved husband Ron (died 2013) when she was touring England with her students. They were married 6 months later in 1969 and moved to Toronto. They spent three unforgettable years in Rio de Janeiro followed by a tour of South America before returning to Toronto. Travel remained a love and hobby of theirs, exploring all parts of the globe. Later in life, Grace and Ron discovered their love of golf which they played together in their beloved Florida home in the winters and summers in Muskoka. Grace's love of literature and education drew her first to academia, completing a PhD at Duke University in 1968, and then to a career as a high school English teacher, retiring from Bishop Strachan School as Vice Principal in 1995. A lifelong reader and teacher, Grace belonged to many book clubs and led others, including one with her large community of friends in Florida. Another enduring interest was birding, which inspired travel with friends and loved ones to locations around the world. Grace will be dearly missed by her three children, David, Charlotte (Travis), and James (Jennifer), and three grandchildren, Lucy, Dillon, and Anne, as well as by everyone who was fortunate enough to know her from Duke to Toronto, from Florida to Muskoka. Grace will be buried at Mount Pleasant Cemetery alongside her husband Ron in a private graveside Ceremony. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the Amazon Medical Project (www.amazonmedical.org).

So sorry to hear about Grace's death. I remember her, Ron and all their family, sharing a Christmas Holiday bus trip in Costa Rica many years ago with Ken and I and our children, David & Catherine. It was a fun time for all. It was a pleasure to connect with her again when I joined the Garden Club of Toronto. May the many memories you have of her sustain you through your years ahead.

Grace and I worked side by side for several years when I was Miss Tottenham's secretary. She was a gracious, kind and caring "southern" lady and she became my friend as she helped me feel comfortable in my early days in my job. We were all fortunate to have known her.

I was fortunate enough to have Dr. Osbourne as a teacher and she was amazing. I also babysat her lovely children as well. I am very sorry for your loss.
