Jessie McCULLOUGH Obituary

McCULLOUGH, Jessie Jeannette (nee LANGFORD) 1931 - 2018 We sadly announce that our beloved Jessie went home to heaven quite suddenly and painlessly on Tuesday afternoon, September 11, 2018. She had suffered from dementia for five years, but otherwise was healthy. Her husband of 64 years, Fred, son Tom (Karen), grandchildren Kate and Ben (Miranda Crocket) and sisters Marie Wilson and Isabel (Ray) Unger will miss her dearly. Born and raised in Ottawa, Jessie studied to be a teacher and taught kindergarten with the then Toronto Board of Education. As a young mother, she led neighbourhood children's programs with CEF Ontario and trained other leaders. Later, Jessie formed her own business, Complements, designing "permanent" flower arrangements for corporate and retail clients. Jessie was deeply committed to her Lord and very involved over the years at Pine Grove Meeting in Woodbridge, Hilltop Chapel in Etobicoke and Erindale Bible Chapel in Mississauga. Jessie contributed her artistic and hospitality gifts in many ways at home, in church and with Christian Women's Club. She was generous, gracious, enthusiastic and kind to all she met. Many will remember gatherings in the McCullough's backyard, playing games on the lawn, swimming in the pool and eating home-baked treats, with Jessie in the background making it all happen and making it all look so effortless. Jessie was a fabulous grandmother to Kate and Ben. Always turned out so beautifully, she still didn't hesitate to get down on the floor to play, or dig in the dirt in the garden, or even to jump in the balls at McDonald's with her grandkids! She instilled a sense of "can do" fun and adventure in her grandchildren and demonstrated to them and everyone a life of humble and sincere faith and service in God. Jessie and Fred were as close as a couple could be. They had good friends and a close family and, together, were a blessing to many people over the years. Six years ago, they moved into the Village of Humber Heights retirement home, where they have experienced the love and admiration of staff and residents alike. The staff of the Memory Care neighbourhood have been especially remarkable in their tireless care and dignity shown to Jessie and Fred. The family is very grateful for this indeed. A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 4th at Bloor West Village Baptist Church (293 South Kingsway, Toronto). I lived next door to the McCulloughs when they lived at 1 Barwell Cresc. in Rexdale. Fred and Jesse were wonderful neighbours, always showing an interest in my activities as a began to grow up. I even baby-sat their son Tom who I believe was seven or eight years my junior. Despite the passing of Jesse, and Fred in 2020, I am happy to know that they lived long lives, always dedicated to serving others. My prayers (though belated) to all.
