John Getty Obituary
JOHN GETTY (38 years on the Toronto Police Force) Passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2008 in his 79th year. Predeceased by his wife Evaline. Loving father of Greg (Pina), Shawn (Helene), Cathy Garbutt (Mike), Marie Lynn Zisis (Joe) and the late Janet Mary. Proud granddad of Sean Peter, Tommy, Mary Frances, Evaline, Janna Eve, Shauna, Kayla, Dawson, Ryan Gregory and Caelli. Friends may call at the Jerrett Funeral Home, 660 Kennedy Road, Scarborough (between Eglinton and St. Clair Aves. E.) on Sunday from 7-9 p.m. and Monday from 2-9 p.m. Funeral service Tuesday, please call funeral home at 416-266-4404 for time and place of service. Private family interment at Pine Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or to the Breast Cancer Society.

A highlight of my 35 year career was the opportunity to work with John Getty. I soon realized that the next smartest officer on the Service was at least 10 years behind this humble giant. Over the years it became easy to spot the graduates from the school of 'Gettysburg' as we were all taught to find ways to overcome obstacles rather than give in to them when things had to be done. My thoughts are with Mary, Shawn, and Greg at this time - John will be sadly missed.
