John Smith Obituary

JOHN SMITH April 20, 1928 - August 19, 2008 I gave up my lover and soul mate of near 59 years - his wife, Florence (nee Rimmer). He died peacefully, surrounded by family whom he loved passionately. He left behind: His four children: Deborah McKenna (Bruce), Douglas, Heather Delfino (Rockey) and Jacqueline. His eight grandchildren: Dr. Sean and Lindsey McKenna, Kyle Ferguson, Tasha, Nathan and Jeremy Smith, Jessica and David Delfino. His four great-grandchildren: Gabriel, Brayden, Jakob and Nathan. His much loved pet, Tiger. A well-respected businessman, John built a distinguished career in the car industry, most notably with Eastgate Ford in Hamilton. He later became a successful developer in Florida where he enjoyed working and visiting for 20 years before his return to Oakville. John was an avid golfer and longtime member of the Burlington Golf and Country Club. Special thanks to Dr. Schooling for his many years of support. Heartfelt thanks to the many compassionate doctors and nurses at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital for their care during these past weeks. John will be remembered for the unconditional love and encouragement that he gave to his family. He was a great friend and a gift to all. John will be greatly missed but never forgotten. Visitation to be held at the Glen Oaks Memorial Chapel and Reception Centre, 3164 Ninth Line, Oakville, 905-257-8822, on Saturday, August 23rd from 5-8 p.m. The funeral service to be held in the chapel on Sunday, August 24th, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. A reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oakville Humane Society or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
