Joseph CALLEJA Obituary

CALLEJA, Joseph December 21, 1924 - December 21, 2018 A life devoted to art and teaching Joe died on his 94th birthday of complications due to merkel cell carcinoma. Born in Gozo, Malta, Joe came to Canada in 1958 with his wife Gina. He was a graduate of the Ruskin School of Art, Oxford, an artist, teacher much loved husband, father and friend. He leaves behind his daughter Anna, son-in-law Allan, grandsons Marcel and Antoine and many former students. A private interment has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 5th at 156 Kingsdale Avenue from 1 - 4 p.m. If you wish to make a charitable donation, a donation to an arts group in your community would be appreciated.

I was lucky enough to have Mr. Calleja as my art teacher in high school. He was an incredible teacher, artist and to my teenage self, a most unique person. May he rest in peace. Carol (Scattergood) Wood.
