Kenneth ARDILL Obituary

ARDILL, Kenneth May 25, 1927 - May 11, 2021 Passed away peacefully on Tuesday at Scarborough General Hospital after a short illness. Predeceased by beloved wife Eileen Ardill (2016). Loving father of Karen Feeney (Jim), John and David. Survived by his sister Bonnie Hutton (Don) and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Aubrey and Lillian Ardill, and his brothers John and Roger. Ken worked for many years at Shell Canada, however, he was truly in his element after retirement volunteering at The Toronto Zoo as the photographer. The family wishes to thank his PSWS for their wonderful care the past couple of years and the staff at Scarborough General Hospital for all of their kind care of Ken in his final days. Cremation has taken place. According to his wishes there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, we gratefully suggest a donation to the charity of your choice in Ken's memory.

Ken was such a kind, gentle soul. Will always remember his bright smile, soft, calm voice, and his amazing talent for photography, ... many of his photos a part of our educational presentations. Always enjoyed our conversations when he was in as a Volunteer at the Zoo and looked forward to seeing new photos with each new project he was focused on, and the fun little captions he would write. Ken will always be in our hearts and memories and will truly be missed. My deepest sympathies.

I am so grateful I got to know Ken and share time with him as we photographed so many amazing animals together. He was always enthusiastic and creative and we explored many different techniques that resulted in wonderful photographs that revealed the essence and beauty of the subjects. Our time together was always a mix of photography, story telling and discussions. I loved the times when he would stop by for the 'big reveal' after a photo session and proudly share the resulting photos and the captions he would add. Even after he stopped coming to the Zoo we connected for the occasional call. He gave me a signed copy of one of his favorite photographs we did together and I will always cherish it and the memories of a gentle and kind soul.

I was truly saddened to hear of Ken's passing. He was one of the kindest people I've ever met. I'll certainly miss seeing him around the zoo but his photographs hanging in my home will always bring back fond memories of him.

Ken was a generous, kind man who took wonderful photos at the Toronto Zoo. He was great to talk to and share stories with. He took photos at my retirement from the zoo that I treasure and some great shots of animals I worked with. RIP Ken.

Ken was truly a wonderful kind gentleman who always looked in to say "Hello". He told some fascinating stories of earlier times, such as being helped home by Oscar Peterson when somewhat tipsy, which spoke to his fun-loving, and possibly a little mischievous, personality. Once Ken realized that I was enthusiastic about photography, he immediately gave me some equipment, such was his generosity; I use it still today, and it will now have even more significance. Rest in Peace Ken, you will certainly be missed by all, but I have no doubt you are already saying "if you cannot see the camera then the camera cannot see you", wherever you are XXX
