LEONARD BERNARD BARTLETT Age 92, passed away at the Trillium Health Centre on Monday, August 20, 2012 following a courageous battle with cancer. Len was born April 15, 1920 in Toronto to the late Lily Bow and Bernard Bartlett. Len served in the RCAF for five years during World War II, was a proud veteran and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. After the war, Leonard worked in the custom furniture division of the T. Eaton Company. He became General Manager of Eaton's Furniture Factory located on Christie Street in Toronto and was in charge of the production and design of the fine furniture division. The furniture produced by Eaton's was destined for embassies, major hotels, large estates, private homes and even Clarence House for then Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip. Forced to resign at a fairly young age due to health issues, Len continued to hold an interest in furniture and fine design his entire life. He also kept very busy with an interest in writing and photography. Len wrote and published a number of books on his life and the changes to Toronto, the city he loved and would not leave. Len was also a longtime member of the Islington Golf and Country Club where he enjoyed the company of many club members who became good friends and fellow pool players. Predeceased by his loving wife Ruth and his sister Vera (late George Miller), Len is survived by three generations of family members including his sisters June (Dennis) O'Donnell and Marlene (late Stuart Noble). Leonard was uncle to Denise, Brian, Debbie, Linda, Patty, Jim, Janette and their spouses, children and grandchildren. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 30, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, Maple Leaf Branch No. 266, 3591 Dundas Street West, Toronto, M6S 2T1.
