Lydia Senkiw Obituary
SENKIW, Lydia (nee Kohut) - Passed away at Scarborough Grace Hospital on February 24, 2010. The family would like to thank the staff of Sts. Peter and Paul Residence for their compassionate care in her final years. Lydia was born on December 10, 1920 in Stanislaviv, Ukraine. She was predeceased by her husband Roman Senkiw on September 5, 2003 and her two younger sisters Daria Lewicky and Jura Kohut, both of Winnipeg. Lydia leaves to mourn two sons George Senkiw with spouse Christina and Mark Senkiw with two grandchildren Eugene and Luba. She is survived by her younger sister Daria's husband Oleh Lewicky in Winnipeg. Lydia had studied law in Lviv, Ukraine and during WWII worked and trained as a Nurse in Germany. With her husband Roman whom she married in 1945 and their 2-year-old son George left for Canada in 1948 and settled in Winnipeg. She worked as a Nurse's Assistant at several Winnipeg hospitals and had her second son Mark in 1954. When the family moved to Toronto in 1956, she completed her nursing studies to continue work as a Licensed Practical Nurse. In 1965, she again changed careers and worked as a Library Technician for University of Toronto's Robarts Library from where she took early retirement in 1983.
