MADELINE HARMAN Obituary

MADELINE SMART HARMAN May 9, 1926 - March 28, 2017 Passed quietly at 90 years of age, at Scarborough General Hospital in Toronto. Born Madeline Edgely Smart, "Maddy", dear daughter of the late Ernest Smart and Leah Mabel Smart (Venman). Sister of the late Rosaleen (Smart) Gauvreau, aunt of Sandra Fergusson and husband Don and Godmother of Sandra and Don's son Scott Fergusson. Beloved wife of James John Harman. Ever-loving mother of Mark Harman and the late Paul Harman. Beloved mother- in-law of Biserka Livaja. Grandmother of Cinema and Dylan Harman Livaja and of Tanya Harman Lagness. Also great-grandmother of Tanya's daughter Allie. During the Second World War, Maddy "Performed valuable service of a confidential nature" with the British Security Coordination, both at their headquarters in New York City and at Special Training School 103, Camp X, in Whitby, Ontario. After raising her two children she returned to office administration at the Mental Health Association in Ottawa and at the offices of CUSO, also in Ottawa. According to Maddy's wishes she has been cremated and her remains will be interred at Pinecrest Cemetery in Ottawa, next to her son Paul. A Celebration Of Maddy's Life will be held at Cedarbrook Lodge, 520 Markham Road in Toronto, on Sunday, May 7th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. An additional Celebration Of Life will be held in Ottawa on Saturday, May 13th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Pinecrest Remembrance Reception Centre, 2500 Baseline Road in Ottawa. Also according to Maddy's wishes, in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your local Down Syndrome Association.

I will always remember her kind greetings.As a teen I spent a lot of time in her basement and she would take the time to talk to me when i saw her.A sad loss to those who knew her,but we find comfort in the knowledge of a life well lived.
