NORMAN LYON Obituary

NORMAN BARRY LYON June 2, 1936 - February 28, 2015 It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear brother, uncle, granduncle, godfather and friend Barry after a short but incredible feisty battle with cancer. He will be missed by his brother Keith, sister Linda and his treasured niece and nephews Chris, Brent, Dana and Scott. He is also survived by his adored grandnieces and grandnephews Jesse, Dylan, Miliya, Brina, Anjuli, Luca and Cody and by his much loved goddaughter Ali. He was sadly predeceased by his nephew Todd. Barry was born and raised in Vancouver, but after completing his studies in Arts at University of British Columbia, moved briefly to New York and then on to Toronto to establish his career. Barry spent over 55 years in real estate development in Toronto during which he became one of the most prominent authorities in condominium development. He established N. Barry Lyon Consultants which grew to become one of the most respected development consultancies in Toronto. He was passionate about both his work and his art. Over the years he has encouraged many aspiring Canadian artists. His humour and compassion will be deeply missed by his Vancouver family and his Toronto "family". Donations can be made to Princess Margaret Hospital or the Toronto Arts Foundation. Condolences can be left at www.aftercare.org A Celebration of Barry's Life will be held in Vancouver and Toronto. Times and venues will be announced later.

Barry and I were competitors for a long time, but friendly competitors.I enjoyed his company very much and respected his vast knowledge of the GTA condo housing market.Barry is responsible for my wife and I living in the condo project we do. I will also recall the night he invited Jackie and me to visit and admire the treasure of art he amassed in his apartment. I will never forget him.

To the family of Norman Barry Lyon...

I worked closely with Barry for many years and always respected his ability to come up with answers that were so important for our development industry. He was a wonderful speaker and well respected by everyone. His contributions will be remembered by many people in both the art and development facets of his life.

May happiness of his memories be with you now and always.

Barry was exceptional, a one of a kind, especially in his support for the arts, and as one of his artist friends I will miss him and his warmth and intelligence and enthusiasm in so very many ways. Rest in peace Barry, and may you be surrounded by beauty.
