Pauline Hinch Obituary

PAULINE CHORNIUK HINCH March 13, 1930 - May 13, 2008 Pauline died at Toronto's Sunnybrook Health Centre, 14 days after a mortal hemorrhagic stroke and just 3 days shy of her 50th wedding anniversary. Beloved wife, lover and pal of Gordon, loving, dedicated mother of Douglas and cherishing elder sister of Mary Chorniuk. Pauline was born and raised in Fort William, Ontario. Predeceased by her parents, William and Joanna Chorniuk. She graduated from Fort William Vocational School where she was class valedictorian. After leaving school Pauline joined the staff at radio station CKPR. In her early twenties she was a local on-air personality hosting her own very popular children's program as 'Miss Polly'. In 1954 Pauline moved to Vancouver. Once again she landed a job at a local radio station, CKNW, writing advertising copy. She's also worked at several Toronto advertising agencies, radio station CKFH and the CBC. In 1957 Pauline met Gordon and they were married on May 16, 1958. Douglas arrived in 1959. Night and summer courses led to an Arts BA from the University of Toronto. All through these years she played violin regularly with the East York and North York community orchestras. In 1975 Pauline received her Master's Degree in Library Sciences. The North York Library Board hired her as a librarian at the old North York central library on Yonge Street. She had found her working home at last. As the building of North York's much needed new main branch got underway Pauline was offered managerial responsibilities. Prior to her retirement in 1990 she was managing three departments. Pauline was a good, kind and loving person completely free of malice and small mindedness. She had a passion for her garden. She hated to shop, but was always well dressed, made all her own clothes and could thieve and modify dress designs with the best of them. Pauline was a fine and inventive cook. She was very careful about living a healthy life and following a healthy diet. Pauline and Gordon shared many interests: music, the theatre, books of every kind, admiring gardens and galleries and great gothic churches wherever they found them. Cremation has taken place. Interment in the family plot in York Cemetery. There will be a remembrance for family and friends at the York Visitation Chapel and Reception Centre, 160 Beecroft Road (north of Sheppard Ave., first street west of Yonge St.), Toronto, 416-221-3404 on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 3 o'clock. If you wish, contributions in her name to any good cause would be welcomed. oh i should worry and fret death and i will coquette there s a dance in the old dame yet toujours gai toujours ga i
