STEPHEN TRAVISS Obituary
STEPHEN EDWIN TRAVISS May 3, 1944 - November 24, 2016 At Briton House in Toronto, in his seventy-third year, after a brief struggle with metastatic cancer and following several years of debilitating illness bravely and stoically borne. He was the son of the late James and Marion (Mitchell) Traviss and was predeceased by his two sisters Mary Jane Gregory and Judy Traviss. He leaves to mourn his passing his nieces Katie and Anne Gregory; his Mitchell and McClung relations; and a wide circle of friends and acquaintances. Stephen was educated at Trinity College School in Port Hope, Ontario; Trinity College, University of Toronto; London School of Economics; and the University of Toronto Law School. After law school, he became Senior Counsel, Professional Conduct at the Law Society of Upper Canada and remained there many years, becoming a fixture in legal circles in Ontario. Latterly, he went into private practice. For some years, he also taught business law at Ryerson Institute of Technology, later Ryerson University, in Toronto. Stephen had an easy, engaging wit and loved to laugh. His humorous streak often dovetailed with his passionate interest in politics and history. You haven't really lived until you heard (and saw) Stephen do his John Diefenbaker impersonation. He was a loyal and generous friend, a gentle man and a gentleman. He was memorable. A memorial service will be held at St. Cuthbert's Church, 1399 Bayview Ave. (south of Davisville Ave.), on Thursday, December 8th at 11 a.m. Reception to follow in the church. Interment Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined.
