Obituary

HOFFMAN, William Howard (Bill) Peacefully, surrounded by family at Peterborough Regional Health Centre, on February 19, 2008, William Howard Hoffman, formerly of Toronto, in his 82nd year. Devoted and loving husband of Margaret Ida Hoffman. Proud father of Bob, John, Jim and Karen, of Peterborough. Devoted and loving grandfather of Brie, Carey, Riley, Jesse, Keegan, Aaron and Carmen. Dear brother of Lucille McBeth and John C. Hoffman. Bill was born and lived most of his life in Toronto before moving to Royal Gardens Retirement Home in Peterborough in November 2007. Bill received his BA from the University of Toronto and a Master of Sciences from McGill. After a year working for the National Research Council in Ottawa, Bill went to work as a chemist at Toronto Elevators in 1950 eventually rising to the position of Director of Research at Maple Leaf Mills (MLM). Late in his career, motivated by his love of working with people, Bill switched jobs within MLM and worked in Human Resources until his retirement in 1986. Bill's greatest loves were his family and working with people. His community work included serving as an elder with Scarborough Junction United Church and Board Member at Five Oaks, a United Church education centre. Bill will be remembered for his intelligence, honesty, sense of fairness, love for his fellow human beings and his irreverent sense of humour which lives on in his four children and seven grandchildren. Friends and family will be received at Royal Gardens Retirement Home, 1160 Clonsilla Ave., Peterborough on Saturday, February 23 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Memorial service at Bloordale United Church, 4258 Bloor St. West in Etobicoke, Ont. on Monday, February 25 at 2 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson Society of Canada. www.parkinson.ca
