GEOFFREY RONALD DAVID BERKWOOD HOBSBAWN December 23, 1914 -- February 7, 2009 Geoffrey passed away peacefully in his 95th year, with his family by his side. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Irene, his son Donald and grandsons Darl and Dailyn, sister-in-law Joyce, nieces Lesley and Jacqui, as well as many other close family members in Toronto, Chile and Australia. Geoffrey was a Veteran of WWII, a devoted Treasurer for and long-time congregation member of his church, and a dedicated cribbage player with his friends at the CNIB. Born in Wales, he also lived in Chile for many years and served with the RAF in WWII. Returning to Chile after the war, he met and married Irene. He found employment, utilizing his love of numbers, in the accounting field and continued doing so until well into his eighties. He was a prolific reader, amassing knowledge of many areas and possessing an encyclopedic memory for detail. His smile would light up a room and his firm grip tested many a younger man's hands over the years. He will be keenly missed by his worldwide family. A private service will be held at St. Matthew the Apostle Oriole Anglican Church, The Rev. Canon Brad Lennon officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his memory to either St. Matthew's (80 George Henry Blvd., Toronto M2J 1E7) or to the Scott Mission (502 Spadina Ave., Toronto, M5S 2H1).
