Dennis Rose Obituary

ROSE, Dennis Gerald Passed away, with his family at his side, on February 5, 2008, at St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto, following an accident. He is survived by his dearly loved wife, Barbara (Surbeck) and their three beautiful daughters: Catherine (Sean Figueroa) of Toronto, Rhonda (Jonathan Gerald) of Toronto and Chantal (Scot Hutton) of Quadra Island, B.C. Dennis was so proud of his 'girls' and of course of his two grandchildren: Alexandra Hutton and Django Hutton. Dennis was predeceased by his parents, Gerald and Rosaleen Rose of Hamilton. Dennis will be greatly missed by his brother and closest friend, Roger Rose (Judy) of Hamilton and by many nieces and nephews in Hamilton, Ottawa, Charlottetown and in the U.S. Dennis was born in Rose Valley, Saskatchewan but moved as a young child to Hamilton, Ontario for his formative years. Dennis was an artist from the beginning, studying drawing and painting in Hamilton, working in a graphic design studio there until he received a scholarship to study painting in England. In his next years he again turned to the graphic design and illustration business and to working as an Art Director in advertising agencies in Montreal before starting his own graphic design business there. After 20 years in Montreal he moved the business and the family to Toronto. During his active work life he continued his studies in fine art and graduated from Concordia University, Montreal, with a Bachelor of Fine Art. Since selling his business in 2000 Dennis has been pursuing his painting interests and has been an active member of the Arts & Letters Club of Toronto. A man for all seasons, Dennis relished the rush of a good long distance bike ride, an invigorating long swim and the challenge of a cross-country ski course. His motto was always 'just try a little harder'. A Service of Remembrance will be held at TIMOTHY EATON MEMORIAL CHURCH, 230 St. Clair Avenue West, Toronto, on Monday, February 11, 2008 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully received by The Canadian Hearing Society at 271 Spadina Road, Toronto, M5R 2V3, or Timothy Eaton Memorial Church at 230 St. Clair Avenue West, Toronto, M4V 1R5, or please plant a tree in Dennis' memory.
