When I think about my Uncle Jack and Aunt Maggie, my heart is filled with both joy and sorrow. Their lives were truly dedicated to service. They tirelessly reached out and helped so many, always seeking ways to make us laugh, to teach, and to lead by example. I feel incredibly grateful to have had their great influence in my life. They both had a strength of character that few in life acheive, created by many the many challenges they faced.
Thank you for your powerful influence and direction. You are both alive in my heart.

God Bless Jack! My first Memories of Jack are of his visits to the Sunday morning gathering at the YMCA in Brampton. We listened intently to your stories and wisdom right out into the parking lot. It seems like so long ago and again like yesterday too. Thanks Jack

Jack my dear and special friend, it has been 2 weeks now since we said goodbye - but then you always said "never say goodbye Pat, always said so long". I still think I will get the first of many calls during the day when I am in our newmarket apartment - I am so blessed with the memories of what we shared - and how we laughed and helped each other when not sure what to do in certain situations - I miss you so. Morgan talks to you and says you are a butterfly now - Avery continues to paint for you. My Irish family celebrates your stories and your love for them and they for you. Thanks to all who wrote such loving tributes for Jack = and all the cards and emails sent to me - My family will honour him always. PAT

I am so sad to hear of Jack's passing. My condolences to all who loved him. Our world is a much darker place now. Jack certainly was a bright light of love and inspiration to me. I feel so honoured and blessed to have known him. I learned so much about painting, and about life, sitting at his side at his gallery in Mississauga. Jack had such a kind and generous heart. He shared not only his love and brilliant knowlege of watercolour painting, but he also shared his wonderful and delightful spirit. I will always treasure those joyful and enriching times we had together. Jack always had a word of encouragement for me to never quit painting and I can still hear him say with that twinkle in his eye, "Just go with the flow and have fun." Thank you so much, Jack, my mentor, my friend. You will be dearly missed. You will always have a special place in my heart.

Dear Pat,
Our deepest sympathies to you, your family and Jack's family. We count meeting you and Jack two years ago as one of our greatest blessings. Jack was such a wonderful, talented yet humble man. We're so glad that you were there for him.
Keep the good memories close and know that there are so many people who will miss Jack and who are keeping you and your families in their thoughts and prayers at this very sad time.
Heaven has gained a very talented angel. Rest in peace Jack.

I am so sorry to learn of Jack's passing. He was always one of my painting 'heroes' and I feel so fortunate to have met him and had the opportunity to learn from him. I was new to BC and missing the prairies when I took a class from him in Agassiz,bc. He was a very sensitive and caring person and he helped me to paint what I know, "the prairies". I will never forget what a difference it made in my creative spirit. I remember him with great fondness. My condolences to his family and friends.

I just learned of Jack's passing and am bereft. Jack & Pat stayed with us when he came to share his great gift with us in our small town of Agassiz. I have pictures of him painting in my art room, which he said I must always call my "STUDIO". He inspired our group and we will all remember him, and I hope some of our paintings will reflect what he taught us. God Bless

This is being written from the perspective of 1981, when I last saw Jack. His work inspired me as an amateur water colourist. Jack and Maggie Reid were unforgettable. Jack introduced Maggie to painting, and her style was strongly influenced by his. I was at their house just prior to her first showing. Her painting differed from his in that there were little human touches, like colourful washing hanging out on the line. Around that time, Jack did his first paintings of Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver, which strongly influenced me to move to this location from the East. I now live 5 minutes away from where he painted. A large print of his Horseshoe Bay hung in my parent's home for 25 years. Many people attended the Kingsway Group and made a beeline to the room where they knew he sat and shared his wisdom and wonderful stories. I will never forget him, and I owe him a great deal.

Jack, perhaps you now understand what is still incomprehensible to us, still here on earth. Thankyou.

Jack touched the "canvas of life" in so many of us! His gentleness and loving compassion touched so many of our lives ... not just with a paintbrush but with patience, kindness and always an outstretched hand. This world is a better place because of people like Jack !

To my uncle Jack,
how my life has been effected by you. From the time my mother took me as a child to see you in your home studio in Mississauga so many years ago, you let me, at the time a six year old, paint with your brushes and on your valuable paper, then when I was done you matted my little painting of a tree. That was 41 years ago, I have beem painting trees and the like ever since. My work is seen all over the world and here in Canada, and it all began with you. You were my mentor, encourager and friend. You believed in me even when I did not believe in myself. I was the last family member to speak with you just hours before you left us and I will never forget you. I will proudly carry the watercolour torch for the rest of my days.

Uncle Jack was a one of a kind, unique and incredibly caring spirit. Through two very difficult moments in my life, without request, he was there to offer advice and direction in a serious but well humoured manner. I will never forget that or of course the ubiquitous summer art lessons at the cottage.

The Lord has called our loved one Home
To be near Him - by His side
Although our hearts are filled with pain - Our Faith in Him will abide
Jack is at peace - In Heaven's Fold
No more earthly sorrows to bear
My thoughts are with his near - dear ones
Please know I pray and care

Such a wonderful man, full of life, and so much to offer everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him, or even being in one of he's classes. I learned so much about painting and life attitude from Jack. I will always have a special place in my heart for him. Pat you must miss him dearly. My condolences to Jack's and Pat's families. The artistic world has lost one of it's brightest and most charming character. Even tho time got away from me an I missed my chances to meet up with him again. He was always on my mind and in my heart. Jack will be sorely missed by everyone who he touched.
