William Beeton Obituary
WILLIAM 'BILL' BEETON March 24, 1935 - October 23, 2009 Passed away peacefully in his sleep after a 25 year battle with COPD. His brother, sister-in-law, children and ex-wife were by his side. Bill's life was a celebration of wine, women and art, and his dashing oxygen-tanked presence about town will be missed. He was a brother to Jack and Peter, a stimulating husband to former wives Anne and Lynn, a loving father to Andrew, Chris and Maija, honorary children Kim, Michael and Stephen, son-in-law Andre and a doting grandfather to Isabella. He never fought in any wars, thankfully, but he did work on movies as a production designer. He started his career as a fine artist and expanded into television production in the CBC's special FX and set design departments. He is perhaps best known for his work with Jim Henson on Muppet specials and Fraggle Rock. His numerous film and television credits earned him Genie, Cable Ace, Prix Anik and Emmy nominations and awards. He was a member of the Directors Guild of Canada and never ceased working as a fine artist. The family would like to thank Julia, Hannah, Jim, Csilla, Jordan and David for their solid friendship through times good and bad, along with Drs. Boulter and Obaji, OHIP, the medical staff at Toronto Western and Mount Sinai Hospitals, and CCAC for giving Bill 15 years more than was predicted and then helping him depart in dignity and comfort. Friends may visit at the Rosar-Morrison Funeral Home & Chapel, 467 Sherbourne Street (south of Wellesley Street) on Halloween, Saturday, October 31, 2009 from 12 noon until time of memorial celebration at 1 o'clock. As an expression of fraternity, flowers, donations to St. Christopher's House or letters of condolence will be much appreciated.
