Christopher Rogers Obituary

CHRISTOPHER (CHRIS) JORDAN ROGERS
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden death of Christopher (Chris) at age 35. Chris was the beloved son of Wayne and Vera (nee Nickoloff) and proud brother of Ian, all of Toronto. He was a much adored cousin of Brenda and Scott (Stevens), Beverley (Nickoloff), Barbie and Robert (D'Andrea), and Brian and Angela (Nickoloff) and will be sadly missed by his second cousins Jennifer, Lindsay and Jordan. Chris will also be missed by his Aunt Gayle and Uncle Ed Simms of Hamilton, and cousins Bradley and Ryan Simms. Chris was born on April 17, 1974 in North York, Ontario. A graduate of Fine Arts at Queen's University, Chris was a gifted artist with boundless potential. He loved to work with his hands, expressing his artistic ability through painting and woodworking. His greatest enjoyment was found in Northern Ontario on Kenogami Lake where he spent time building a house with his Dad and brother. He aspired to become a father and build a family. Sadly, his young life was cut short. Chris' handsome smile and gentleness will be greatly missed and fondly celebrated by all who loved him. Friends and family are welcome to share memories and celebrate Chris' life on Sunday, November 1, 2009 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home (6150 Yonge Street, south of Steeles). A short service and interment to be held in Kirkland Lake, Ontario at a later date. If desired, memorial donations may be made to St. Stephen's Community House, 260 Augusta Avenue, Toronto, ON M5T 2L9 416-964-8747.

I can remember seeing Chris in Toronto after his first major show sold out. He was super stoked. We had met him through Matt, a childhood friend from Kirkland Lake. What a huge loss to the International Art Scene. He was so great and so talented...

I can't imagine my life if I had not met Chris. He inspired me constantly from the get go, and was largely responsible for making me follow my dreams to become a photographer.
I wish I could be back in Toronto to be closer to the Rogers in this time of sorrow. My thoughts are with you everyday.
I Love you Chris.

Chris, I love you dearly. I feel lonely for the first time in my short life. People tell me you were proud of your young brother, but not nearly as proud as I was and am of you. I will continue to make you proud and your spirit will remain with me for ever and live on.

I hadn't seen Chris for years until I ran into him at the gladstone last new years eve. We had a few drinks and reminisced about our fallen art careers, both astounded that we remembered so much of each others work. it was a great evening.

On my first day of Kindergarten I met Chris and he became my very first friend. I followed him from Kindergarten to Grade 8, always in amazement of his various talents whether it be skateboarding or his art. He was talented but he was also a very kind and honest individual. I always cherished my childhood friendship with Chris and he will forever be in my thoughts and memories. My sincere condolences go to his family.

I do not know Chris's family, however, my deepest condolences to them for their loss of such a wonderful soul. I am thankful for the picture, as it captures Chris in a way I would choose to remember him. He will be missed by many, and his absense at our weekly meeting will be noticed. Our condolences to Chris' family. Chris was a special friend to our boys and we know they will miss him.
Paul and I extend our sympathy to Vera and Wayne. The hardest part of parenting is the fear of losing a child and there are no words to ease the pain you must feel at this time. We wish you strength and comfort from many family and friends and all those whose lives Chris touched personally and through his art.
Take care
