Lily Yung Obituary

YUNG, Dr. Lily Li Li - (April 18, 1947 - August 11, 2010) Lily passed peacefully on August 11, 2010 at Toronto General after an amazingly courageous and artistically creative 2 years fighting her battle with cancer. She was just 63. Lily was a tenacious spirit who had an opinion to share and loved all things creative. Beloved daughter of Tak-Chai and Shu Yung and the cherished sister of Eileen (Bill), predeceased by sisters Ching Yee Mak (Kau Biu), Alice Yung and brother Wai Ming Yung (Pauline). Lily was a loving and inspirational aunt of Jennifer (Stacy), Melodie (Justin), Alexandra, Emily and Elizabeth Yue and to Peter Yung (Wing) and Flora Chan (Michael). Guests will be received at Mount Pleasant Visitation Centre (375 Mount Pleasant Road, east entrance, 416-485-5572), on Tuesday, August 17 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. with eulogies at 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. Interment will be on Friday, August 20 at 1:30 p.m. Whether it be bright socks, a colourful scarf, or a piece of her jewellery, it would be nice of you to wear something bright to Lily's service. In lieu of flowers, we know that Lily would want you to make a donation to the charity of your choice. Lily was very much loved and will be missed.

44 years ago this time, Lily Yung and a handful of us converged at the University of Hong Kong to start our study in biological science. She stood out as an energetic young lady wearing oversized thick rim spec and thick straight shoulder-length hair; this look remained unchanged to the very end. Also remained unaltered was her cheerfully open personality and no nonsense attitude towards life. She is so unique.

Lily was a rare and generous spirit and a fine artist. Her involvement with the founding of the Artists' Health Centre will always be a cherished memory. Rest in peace, dear friend! You will be missed but always fondly remembered.
