He will be sadly missed and remembered always for his 'joie de vivre', love of music and passion for philosophy that he was always willing to share with others. His grandchildren continue to fondly recite the many bits of wisdom he frequently offered. Besides being a lifelong member of the Mississaugua Golf Club, Bruce was an avid outdoorsman. He had a love of horses whether riding himself as master of the hunt or supporting Canadian competitive riders in pursuit of excellence. He was a founding Director of the Canadian Horse Council and the Honorary Organization of Volunteers for the Equestrian Sport (HOOVES). He served as the head of the Canadian Equestrian Three Day Event Team at Pan Am Games, Olympic Games and World Championships where the team earned a gold medal in 1978. Through his outstanding business career Bruce had a tremendous impact. As a man with vision, his community was large, it was Canada. Acknowledged as the Father of the City of Mississauga, builder of Square One Shopping Centre and constructor of the Mississauga City Core, Bruce had an outstanding career across the country from coast to coast. As someone who always tried to make life better for others he was a mentor, leader, philanthropist, community activist and author. A past member of the Young Presidents' Organization he graduated to the World Presidents' Organization and was recognized by the World Business Council. A Lifetime Member Emeritus of the Board of Governors of Appleby College and a Member of the Governing Council of the University of Toronto, Bruce had a never ending thirst for knowledge. This quest was exercised through reading, global travels and conversations with great leaders. Bruce MCLaughlin left his mark. He was a visionary with compassion for his fellow man. Always spreading joy, Bruce expressed genuine kindness to many, particularly those in need, exercising this support in an understated manner. None of this was outdone by his deep, profound and unwavering love for his family. Bruce is finally at peace after a valiant fight.
