Alan was one of the sweetest and funniest people I've ever known. We met in band class in 7th grade and remained friends throughout Jr. High and High School. I'm so glad we were able to stay in touch through Facebook and at a couple of reunions in recent years. My deepest condolences to Rob and the rest of the family.

Throughout my time at CBC and long after, Alan was a fantastic source of insight, ideas and inspiration around media in general, creativity, the new possibilities of interactive narrative and the importance of a distinct Canadian and public broadcaster.

These talks were usually held at conferences, where he was attending as a much sought after visionary on these subjects and more - or more often at the Pilot in Toronto - where he was simply a very funny, warm and sharing person.

My thoughts are with his family and all of us who had the pleasure of knowing and working with Alan.

I was very sad to hear about Alan's passing and am sorry for your loss.
I worked with Alan on several projects and knew him to be very intelligent with a bright mind. He was also a kind and thoughtful person. I kept in contact with Alan over the years and will miss his sense of humour.

I was very saddened to hear of Alan's passing at far too young an age. I have very fond memories of many happy times spent with Alan during our school days, including four years of Latin classes together (being the only two students in the second Grade 13 Latin course), three school trips to Europe together (Greece, France and Italy), taking the CAA driver's course together, and an Ancient Novel course at UofT. My thoughts and prayers are with Alan's family at this most difficult time.
Alan, mi care amice, requiescas in pace.

My thoughts go out to Kim and Alan's family. What a shock is was to hear the news here in Banff at the Media Festival. Alan was not only a thought leader in our industry, a visionary and great partner, he was also a wonderful and caring person. I will remember our many great conversations- especially here in Banff, about how we can make change happen and do things differently. Thank you for your passion, friendship and hard work Alan. We will miss you buddy!

Another member of my Jr. High School years has passed but I was lucky enough to get reunioned at said school a few years ago and what a fine man he turned into from the boy I knew at Jr. High. His candor and humour in his writings/postings were inspiring and funny usually at the same time. My heart goes out to you Kim and I see from the pictures on Fb and what he wrote about you it's obvious you brought him happiness and support and at this sad time know that others see the love you gave him in his needest hours and his love for you and that is the greatest gift we can give each other and you did that well. Also, my deepest heartfelt condolences to all his family members but know that he touched us all with his bravery, humour and grace and will be missed.

I would like to send my condolences to the family of Alan Sawyer. I met Alan via local technology events and he was always a regular and positive contributor to conversations in social and other settings. Alan did share his condition with me, and even though I could not help him out with a particular technical need with some effort, he was deeply appreciative and thankful. He was a smart person, well-intentioned, and passionate about his work. Alan, we'll miss you and I am sorry that I never had the chance to share a beer with you. Rest in peace my friend.

Met Alan at an RBC project in the late 1990's. I was immediately impressed with Alan's forthright style, mental capacity, sense of fair play and dignity.
A class act taken away 'way too soon. We are all enriched through our relationship - a relationship that started at RBC and had sufficient starch to continue well after we no longer worked together.
