Leslie George TIBBLES

TIBBLES, Leslie George - One of Canada's great landscape and watercolour artists, Leslie George Tibbles, passed away on the morning of June 5, 2014 at Markham Stouffville Hospital. He was 97. Les was predeceased by his beloved wife Mildred and is survived by his sister Verna Vowles of Kingston and his brother Dr. James Tibbles of Sault Ste. Marie and by his only daughter Penelope. His passing is mourned by his nephews Jim and David Vowles, John and Richard Tibbles, Don Rowan, Bruce and Ken Miller, Edward Miller and Melville Talbot and by his nieces Margaret Walbank and Lois Hurren and by his many great-nieces and nephews, cousins and great-greats too. Also remembered by Julia Dreger. Les was a teacher and later joined the Canadian Meteorological Service in 1942 and served as a meteorological officer and scientific advisor at RCAF bases, at Air Transport Command headquarters and at Air Force Headquarters. Later he worked at the Department of Atmospheric Environment in Toronto. Les' travels with the Weather Service gave him the opportunity to paint Canada from coast to coast and up into the Arctic regions. Les was a truly great man who is sadly missed by all who knew him.
