John Dale Obituary

In the early morning of Saturday, August 30, 2014 and surrounded by the love of his family, John passed away after a lengthy and determined battle with cancer. Born in Orillia November 27, 1938, John was the beloved son of Jack Dale (d. 1975) and Edna (nee Brown, d. 1943). He was the cherished husband of Marie (nee Quinlan) for 48 years and best father ever to Anthony (Diane Simpson), James (Sandra Bosnar), Matthew (Kate Thurston), Nancy (David Grimmond) and Jessica (Cal Brunker). Dear grandpa to Zara, Oliver, Madeleine, Emma, Thomas, William, Finn and Myles. Raised in Toronto, graduated University of Toronto (BASc, Metallurgy '61), John worked in countries across the globe, serving in senior capacities with several of the world's largest mining and precious metals companies, including a memorable four years in London, England before establishing his own successful consulting firm 33 years ago. A maverick and never one to follow the crowd, he was a wonderful role model to his children, leading by example and staying true to his principles and values. Innovative cars like Saabs and Studebakers, and Dinky airplanes of his youth fascinated him, and he relished full contact board games with his family. Today John is back in the arms of his mother and forever in the hearts of his family. Many thanks to the chemo nurses at Toronto East General Hospital K Wing and Drs. Richard Shao and Paul Bernick. Visitation will take place at R.S. Kane Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge St. (at Goulding, south of Steeles) on Monday, September 1, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday, September 2, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at Blessed Trinity Parish Church, 3220 Bayview Ave. on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 10 a.m. Interment Mount Hope Cemetery. I just found out about John's passing. We met at his grandmother's (Ma Brown) house in the Harbour when I was 15. He impressed me then as a considerate , kind person. I kept in touch with his cousin, Inez, and she recounted how considerate and kind he was , offering to host her in Toronto while her husband's illness was being addressed. My first impression was true. So sorry for your loss but happy you were able to experience his mentorship .
