Joan ATTERSLEY Obituary

ATTERSLEY, Joan Marilyn (nee EVANS) Surrounded by family, Joan passed away peacefully and with grace at the Huntsville District Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, September 6, 2017, in her 85th year after a brief and unexpected illness. Beloved partner of Sandy Air and mother of Janice Lea Attersley (Wayne Roberts) and Gordon Thomas Attersley, Joan was the loving grandmother (Nana) of Jamal, Natasha and Lynn, as well as her precious companion dog "Dunnie." She is survived by her sisters-in-law Norma Stone (Art) Stone and Carleen Attersley, as well as many other cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family members. Joan also treasured and treated as family her close friends and special neighbours. Joan was predeceased by her loving husband Robert Attersley (Bob), as well as her brother Harry Evans and parents Gordon and Elsie Evans. Joan was a loving mother, gifted dance teacher, pianist, artist and active community member who embraced life with energy, humour and passion in all she undertook. An active member of the Station Gallery, as well as many other local art clubs, she dedicated her time to supporting the expression of art in many forms and was selected for inclusion in number of prestigious juried art shows. She was an avid hockey fan (especially the Whitby Dunlops!). In recent years, Joan and Sandy hosted a number of wonderful team reunions in her backyard. She loved her active correspondence with many people across the country and beyond. Joan made Whitby her home for over 50 years. Friends may call at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West, Oshawa (905-721-1234), for Memorial Visitation on Thursday, September 14th from 7-9 p.m. and on Friday, September 15th from 1-3 p.m. Memorial Service will be held at the Columbus United Church, 3285 Simcoe Street North (905-655-8852), on Saturday, September 16th at 2 p.m. A Celebration of Life and Reception will be held on Sunday, September 17th at the Oshawa Golf Club from 1-4 p.m. Interment of cremated remains at the Oshawa Union Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Lakeridge Health Foundation (Whitby site) for the support of Palliative Care would be appreciated. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for the exceptional care provided by the Huntsville Hospital ICU staff (Dr. Johnstone, as well as all of the ICU nurses), as well as all the staff at the Durham Region Cancer Centre.

I'm so sorry that I had not heard of Joan's passing earlier. I had known her and Bob since 2005 when I started working at Mercedes Benz Durham.....I always knew they were around when I say that shining, immaculate black car of theirs at the dealership. Joan and I shared quite an immense amount of laughs and emails! I am extremely fortunate to have met her and I consider myself blessed to have been given the gift of one of her paintings that hangs with pride in my home. My condolences to the entire family. The world lost a beautiful woman: inside and out. Rest in Peace "MOM" xo Silvina Pica and the entire staff at Mercedes Benz Durham
