Bruce, I loved Fay's art for the mood & the colors. Her content was inspiring. I remember her show at LAC & possibly she was wearing her stunning Kimono -like jacket from her daughter. She was a very classy lady. Obviously Meghan felt the same way & the reference to the White Queen is delightful.I know you were proud of her.Sincerely, Cheryl Sloan

On behalf of the staff, volunteers and Board of the Art Gallery of Mississauga, I extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Fay Alice Yvonne Sproule.
Fay Sproule was an integral part of the Mississauga visual arts community, her passionate work spanning several decades. She was a founding chair of Visual Arts Mississauga, a Mississauga Arts Council director, and program committee member of the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga. Acting on advisory boards, she has been fundamental to the development of the Blackwood Gallery at the University of Toronto in Mississauga. Fay was also an accomplished painter and a member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour from 1989. She utilized the medium's fluidity to create landscapes filled with a warm, summer-light lit atmosphere. In 1999, Fay was the recipient of the Mississauga Arts Council Visual Artist of the Year award.
Sproule has had numerous solo exhibitions of her work across the Greater Toronto region, and has exhibited in group shows both nationally and internationally. She was also an active instructor, having taught painting at the Blue Mountain School of Landscape Painting, Collingwood; Corfu, Greece; Foundation d'art de la Napoule, France; Sheridan College, Oakville; Sir Sanford Fleming School of Art, Haliburton; and at Visual Arts Mississauga.
The Art Gallery of Mississauga proudly holds three works by Fay Alice Yvonne Sproule within our collection and as an homage to her, will be on view at the AGM from January 11 - February 11, 2018.

Condolences to Fay's family from her VAMily at Visual Arts Mississauga. We wouldn't be here without her vision for a strong and vibrant arts community in our City. We are grateful for all the work she did to found our organization and support others - the Living Arts Centre, Mississauga Arts Council and the Art Gallery of Mississauga and we vow to continue her work into the future.

Most of my memories of Great Aunt Fay are from when I was a young girl. Through the eyes of an 8 year old, she seemed to be someone of grand elegance and proper etiquette...like the queen! As a matter of fact, I was convinced that Great Aunt Fay was actually the White Queen from Alice in Wonderland. Many years later, when my son Carter was born, he received a parcel in the mail addressed very properly to Master Carter. The card read from Great Great Aunt Faye. The gift was a very soft stuffed animal, a little dog....and of course it was white! I have 4 children now and I have shared my White Queen story of my Great Aunt Fay with all of them. I will deeply miss her poinsettia Christmas card arriving in the mail each year.
Hugs to all,
Meghan "Ricky's Daughter"
