Janet was a kind soul and she loved her music. That's why she spent so much time enjoying the live blues scene. She was also a political creature and sided with those who wanted to bring more compassion to politics. I always heard from her after airing Mississippi Fred McDowell on radio. She loved Fred and saw him in a coffee house back in her teen years. As benevolent as she was, Janet inspired the kindness in those around her as is shown on these pages. Her warmth and enthusiasm will be missed by all in the music scene in our town and beyond. Life comes and goes. It's precious and we could savour every drop even as it is finite for all of us. Janet would want us to look around at our acquaintances and friends and treasure them now, while we still can, even as we treasure the memory of those gone on before.

My dearest Janet
In the last months of your life, when others would have been bitter and sad or would have turned away from the world, you embraced it. With grace and dignity and your trademark inclusive love, you continued to welcome and delight in every visitor, every phone call, every message. It was a privilege to share your last months with you and to share our stories, our dreams and hopes. Your legacy was pure love. May you be dancing with a renewed spirit and may your compassionate heart be never forgotten.

The Universe was a much kinder, gentler, loving, beautiful place with you in it Janet. You were one of the first people I met when I moved to the City so many years ago now. I was dancing alone at the SKY and when I looked up, I saw you had joined me. We became friends and DANCING QUEENS. Your love for your family, two legged and four resonated like warmth from the sun. You were and are LOVE. The world was a better place with you in it. May the love that lives on in the hearts who loved you and whom you loved keep that warmth and glow forever. I love you Janet. We of Kirkwood High School Class of 1965 send condolences to Janet's famil and hope your many many happy memories will help you in your sadness. It's not fair that Janet had to suffer from ALS, but now at least she is not suffering - small solace to us left behind. She was a friend in our girlhood and a continual correspondant for many years, especially thru Facebook ... very best wishes,

I only got to spend a little bit of time with Jan - once when she came to visit Pierce Nicole, Cooper and Dale in NYC and when I went up to Toronto to visit them. I really enjoyed Jan's company and conversation. Her love of live music, particularly the blues was impressive! We also shared photos, news, articles, cartoons and funny stories on Facebook and Instagram, so we did get to be a part of each other's lives a bit... and I am glad for it.

Jan was my sister-in-law,and I always thought there would be endless chances to meet, or to go dancing with her, or just to talk on the phone. And in the end to visit her and give her a hug. She was a truly loving being without malice to anyone.

Your face always lit up the room. Your kindness and sweetness, undeniable! The planet was a better place because of you. Everyone who knew you knows this to be true Janet. You are an example of love and humanity... compassion and goodness. Never petty, negative or judgmental. The music community loves you. I love you. I'm so glad to have known you. You're golden.

To Janet's family and the rest of her friends, I pray you take solace in the many memories you have of this special lady. We are trying. Janet touched your soul when you met her. She was loving, forgiving, thoughtful, generous and she was FUN! She knew how to live life and she lived it to the fullest. I met her doing what else but DANCING! She was also always supportive. I think she was the first friend to buy our book for her grandchildren. She was a tremendous support and was always there when you needed her. We tried to be there for her when she needed us. Derek and Pierce, thank you and your families for sharing your amazing Mom with us. Although we are saddened by this tragic loss, our hearts are full knowing she is on the other side, in peace and no longer suffering.

Love eternally,

My heart is heavy to have just found this out. I had the priveledge of meeting Janet about 8 or 9 yrs ago. at the Harp in Port Credit. We hit it off, and became FB friends and have kept in touch of and on on FB. I'm sad to see that she has gone, My heart goes out to her family, grandchildren and her most loved 4 legged furry friends, who she was totally crazy about. Janet you have left a place in my heart because of your kindness and caring and just being the most beautiful humanitarian Ever. I pray that you will have total peace in the arms of God. He said that he would prepare a place for us all. May you be at peace and rest. Love always, and will never forget..Love Reta Harris Bickerstaff.♥♥
