He was a dearly loved friend, and a public heath advocate and hero. Our mother, Anne Johnston, who passed away last year had such high regard for his wisdom, leadership and friendship. In the midst of a global pandemic, his contributions are even more significant. On behalf of my mother, who would say it if she could, and our family, our deepest condolences.

Sandy was a colleague and friend and loved bagels. Every time he saw me, he would mention bagels. I promised I was going to give him some when Covid permitted some traveling to his home. He had many facets to him, one being strong-minded, and we butted heads a few times, but we tried to carry on and I am sorry we lost him. He did help people and colleagues and hope he rests in peace and my deep condolences to his family. Mariana R. Grinblat.

Sandy was a warm and witty man, a pleasure to meet and travel with. My condolences to all his family on his passing and a reminder that there is more than a little bit of him in every one of you.
