Gordon, Bruce Andrew
November 14, 1962 – September 29, 2017
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
It is with profound and heartbroken sadness that we announce the passing of Bruce Gordon. Bruce will be dearly missed by Chris (his best friend and wife) and their children Jillian (Cory Bodnar and daughters Payton and McKayla) and James (Shelby Novak). Chris and the family would like to express their love and appreciation to all their friends and colleagues for their support, comfort and celebrations over the last four months. After earlier years on a farm near Marsden, Bruce moved with his family to Saskatoon. Always striving to be the best he could be, Bruce was active in several sports. He finished a hockey career as the captain of the Saskatoon Blades in 1981/82. Bruce's 28 years in the Saskatoon Police Service included Detective Sergeant in both the Sex Crimes Unit and the Major Crime/Homicide Unit. After retiring from the SPS in 2012, Bruce briefly worked as the Director of Investigations for the new civilian oversight agency in Vancouver, B.C. before enrolling in the College of Law at the University of Saskatchewan. Upon graduation in 2016, Bruce launched his legal career with Cuelenaere LLP, and was called to the Bar in June 2017. After many years of training for bike races and triathlons (completing the Penticton Ironman 9 times), Chris and Bruce became active members of the Saskatoon Cross Fit community. While many are aware of Bruce's achievements in all the public aspects of his life, countless others offer stories of how he was always quick to lend a helping hand to fix a flat, support a parent looking for help with a difficult situation, or to counsel a friend or colleague. Chris and the family would like to thank the many doctors and medical staff for their outstanding support and comfort during the last 4 months. The Celebration of Life will be held at the Elim Church, 419 Slimmon Rd at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 4, followed by a brief reception. Those wishing to offer messages of condolence may do so through the obituary pages of the Dalmeny Funeral Home (dalmenyfuneralhome.ca) or the Star Phoenix. Consistent with Chris and Bruce's belief of "Community Above All Else", donations can be directed to the Saskatoon Cancer Centre (patient comfort care and pancreatic cancer research). #BeLikeBruce with #CourageLikeChris: make every second count!
