David Moleski Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 17 to Apr. 20, 2009.
David Moleski March 22, 1923 April 15, 2009 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved David Alexander Moleski at Sherbrooke Community Center, Veteran's Village, Saskatoon on Wednesday, April 15, 2009. Predeceased by his parents, Eva and Stephen; brothers, Mike, John, Harry, Philip, Russell, Joe, Steve and Stanley; sisters, Irene Braden, Julie Rokosh and Eva Pilot. Survived by devoted wife of 62 years, Ella (nee Braden); daughters, Barbara Lamb, Lorraine Hinton, Dorothy Moleski (Terry Sturgeon), Susan Moleski (Gary Doyle) and Yvonne Price (David Price); grandfather of Mary Pat Hinton (John Barber), Jennifer Hinton, Tom Lamb, Barbara Hinton (Nate Wood), Julie Price and Ruby Price; great grandfather to Patrick Hinton-Barber and Grahame Hinton-Barber; and brother to sisters, Mary Rokosh and Elaine Kowalyshyn (Charlie); as well as uncle to many nieces and nephews. David was born March 22, 1923 on the family farm in the Kelliher district. In 1941, at the age of 18, he joined the Regina Rifles to fight for our country in Europe. After training in England, he landed at Juno Beach in Normandy, the second day of D Day, June 7, 1944. He and his company fought their way through France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. It was only later in life that Dad was able to speak of some of the horrors that he witnessed. He was incredibly proud of his war service and November 11th was always a very important and solemn day in our home. David married Ella Braden of Tullymet in 1947 and they began their life in Wishart and working career at the R.M. of Emerald and the Village of Wishart where he spent 43 years as Municipal Secretary and Secretary Treasurer. For this service he was awarded the Lieutenant Governor's Award for Outstanding Service in 2002 and the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal in 2005. Along with his work, David served on many committees helping to build the community including the executive of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin, the Yorkton Melville Health Region, the Lestock Hospital Board, the Legion Branch, the Yorkton Regional Library Board and the Wishart School District. He also found time to coach minor baseball, curl, take his 5 daughters to music lessons and supervise the parade of boyfriends on Friday nights. With retirement came a move to Saskatoon in a desire to be near daughter Yvonne and her family. Watching all of his grandchildren grow up brought him great joy. The move to Saskatoon also provided the opportunity to be close to a few of his many nieces and nephews and his sister, Mary. The welcoming community of the Columbian Manor provided a great home and many new friends. He will be greatly missed. The Family wishes to express gratitude for the wonderful care David received from the nurses, the 7th Floor, St. Paul's Hospital and all of the caregivers and staff, Veteran's Village, House 10. If so desired, memorial tributes may be made in David's name to the St. Paul's Hospital Foundation or The Sherbrooke Community Center Foundation. Prayers for David will be held at Park Funeral Chapel, 311 Third Avenue North on Monday, April 20, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. led by Rev. Fr. Vasyl Kravchuk, C.Ss.R. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 10th Street and Munroe Avenue with Rev. Fr. Dmytro Dnistrian, C.Ss.R. as celebrant. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Catholic Cemetery. To sign the online book of condolences visit: www.parkfuneral.ca . Dear Ella, We learned of Dave's passing last week. He is free from pain and frustation and you would not want him to endure his situation for any longer. Bill and I enjoyed getting to know Dave when we picked you up for meetings. Hope you are well health-wise, Ella.

All of Joe & Audrey Kowalchuk's family have warm wonderful memories of Dave & Ella as neighbours at the lake. Their deck hosted many coffee parties, recitals & plays. It wasn't often that you would see Dave without a shovel in his hand, we never quite knew what he was doing, but he was always scratching at something in the dirt. He developed quite a throw too, arcing stones into the deep section of the water. Marshmallows toasted over his blazing fire always tasted better. Keeping you in our thoughts, and sharing your loss.
