John Adam Sulz
John Adam, born on a farm west of Davidson, SK on January 25, 1930 and passed away in Saskatoon on February 6, 2016. John was predeceased by his parents Robert and Olga; his daughter Mary at birth (April 21, 1962); his wife Madge (May 14, 1993); and his daughter Joan (August 6, 2015). John will be lovingly remembered by his son John (Cathie) and grandchildren Brittany (Chuy) – great-grandchild Oliver; and Michael (Menette); son-in-law Tom LaPointe and grandchildren Lorie (Rod), Tommy, Michelle, Brent (Michelle) – great-grandchildren Abigail and Joshua; and Matthew (Sabrina) – great-grandchild Mason; daughter Jane and grandchildren Alexander and Nicole; his sisters Jean Tait, Weyburn, Betty (Wendel) Linka, Saskatoon, and Faye Kelsch, Regina. John was also blessed with numerous nieces and nephews. John attended several country schools and after moving to town attended Davidson High School. In 1944, he started in the printing trade at the Davidson Leader in Davidson. He later moved to Olds, Alberta where he continued in the printing business. While in Olds and during the Korean Conflict, John joined the King's Own Calgary Regiment, (KOCR Reserve) M406609 Trooper. He served until the conflict ended. John returned to Davidson and once again was employed at The Davidson Leader. In May 1956, he moved to Saskatoon and became employed at The Star Phoenix as a linotype operator, eventually in a supervisory capacity. After 34 years with The Star Phoenix John retired on December 27, 1989. In his younger years, John was an ardent curler, enjoyed playing golf and played with the Star Phoenix Oddtypes in the media league slow pitch softball league. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Nutana Branch No. 302. John was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 5104, being Grand Knight for the 1994/1995 Columbian Year, as well as holding many other positions on Council. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 15, 2016 at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church (535 - 8th St East) with Rev. Father Nestor Gregoire, OMI as celebrant. The Rite of Committal will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkinson Canada (4211 Yonge Street, Suite 316 Toronto, ON M2P 2A9). Please accept my deepest sympathies to the family of cousin John's recent passing. He boarded with my parents in the 50's while working for the Davidson Leader paper. John & Madge always stopped in Medicine Hat to visit my parents in later years.
