Peter Wong Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 26 to May 27, 2008.
PETER (Ying Hau) Wong June 19, 1930 May 21, 2008 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Ying Hau Wong, on May 21, 2008 at the age of 77 years. Peter passed away peacefully at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon with family members at his side. Peter was born in Canton, China on June 19, 1930. He attended Toi Shan 1st High School and then Business College in Hong Kong. He was a school teacher in China before immigrating to Canada in 1952. He initially owned a book store and Chinese apothecary in Vancouver's Chinatown before becoming a co-owner of a restaurant in William's Lake, B.C. He married Susan Mak on February 21, 1959 and together with his mother, Kam Wong, they opened a restaurant in Abbey Saskatchewan in 1960. They became owners of the Silver Cafe in Cabri Saskatchewan in 1967, where they stayed until their retirement in December 2007. Peter and Susan started their family in 1970 and provided a loving home for their four children. Peter was a very spirited fan of hockey, and was known to sneak out of the kitchen for the big plays. Peter had a keen interest in business and not only owned two restaurants but also owned and ran a motel in Calgary, co-owned an autobody shop in Abbey, invested in rental properties in Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, and Swift Current. Peter was very generous to his family and friends and never forgot his roots in Canton China. Peter will be sadly missed by his wife Susan; brother Tony (Pam) of Calgary; sister Sandra (Lucas) of Edmonton; daughter Jenny (Rashpal) of Saskatoon; sons Kam (Jade) and Paul of Swift Current and Kelly (Barbara) of Edmonton. He will be remembered in the hearts of all his grandchildren: Taran, Sareena, Shaan, Josh, Kevin, and Ayla, as well as numerous nephews and nieces. The family would like to thank all the health care professionals involved in his care. A special thank you to Dr. A. Jugnauth, Dr. S. Ahmed, the nurses of 5th surgery SPH, and the Saskatoon Cancer Clinic for their outstanding care and ensuring his comfort in his last days. The funeral service will be held Friday, May 30, 2008 at 1:30 pm at Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home in Edmonton, Alberta. Interment to follow at Northern Lights Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or St. Paul's Hospital Foundation in Saskatoon. Arrangements are in care of Connelly-Mckinley Funeral Home (1-780-422-2222 or www.connelly-mckinley.com ).

Dear Susan ,
I am away from home right now, but a friend just e-mailed me about your husband's passing.
I just met you one evening last week in our main entrance after your son-in-law dropped you off, but I too lost my husband last year , and I feel I know some of what you are feeling right now. I want to offer you my sincere sympathy on your loss.
Becoming a widow changes so many things in your life, and you must make a new path on your own now. I will be thinking of you these days as you mourn.
Sincerely,
Betty ( # 807)
